ACTRA MEMBERS RATIFY TWO COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS
CBC Television and Radio Agreements, and Local and Regional Addendum to NCA Ratified

January 5, 2009 -- TORONTO - ACTRA members have voted overwhelmingly to approve the Terms of Settlement reached in the CBC Television and Radio Agreements, 2005-2010; and the 2008-2011 Local and Regional Addendum to the National Commercial Agreement. Each agreement received the support of more than 98% of eligible voting members. -more-

CRTC New Media Review: Tomorrow will be too late

December 23, 2008 - Toronto - This winter, ACTRA's campaign for more Canadian TV drama moves to a new front: new media. The CRTC is undertaking a wide-ranging review of broadcasting in new media to determine whether broadcasting over the internet should be subject to federal regulations. In some ways, this is even more important than fighting for more Canadian drama on conventional TV since before we know it, most, if not all, broadcasting will be delivered on the internet. -more-

COMMERCIALS PACT RATIFIED BY ACTRA MEMBERSHIP
ACTRA votes "yes" to new 3-year agreement

November 27, 2008 - Toronto - ACTRA's professional performers have overwhelmingly ratified the National Commercial Agreement (NCA) by 96.6%. The NCA, negotiated between ACTRA and the associations that represent Canada's advertising industry (ICA/ACA), is the industry standard collective agreement that governs the production of English-language commercials in Canada. -more-

ACTRA and Joint Producers Reach Tentative Settlement in Local and
Regional Television and Radio Commercial Addendum

November 13, 2008 - Toronto - ACTRA and the Joint Producers (the Association of Canadian Advertisers and Institute of Communication Agencies) have reached a tentative settlement on Local and Regional Television and Radio Commercial Addendum. The Addendum to the National Commercial Agreement (NCA) governs commercial production outside of Toronto and Montreal. The settlement quickly follows the conclusion of a tentative agreement on new terms for the complete NCA. -more-

CRTC PUTS CANADIAN CULTURE BEFORE BIG CABLE

October 15, 2008 - Toronto - ACTRA welcomes the CRTC's decision to deny the cable and satellite TV industry's calls for sweeping deregulation. The national professional performers' union also applauded the Commission's recognition that funding for Canadian programming needs to be increased. -more-
