She
appeared with many "imported stars" at the Garden Centre Theatre in
Vineland and played Edward Everett Horton's Nanny in "All for Mary"
although she was twenty years his junior! You can catch her in a
delightful scene with Burt Lancaster in the film "Atlantic City".
Eleanor
and Kenny both took part in many PAL performances. David Cargill played
Jack to Eleanor's Lady Bracknell at what Eleanor calls a "geriatric
production" of "The Importance of Being Earnest" because the actors
were about fifty years older than their characters. Billie Mae
Richards, the "Rudolph" of Red nose fame, played Gwendolyn, who admits
to being seventeen!. David says Eleanor is a totally unselfish actress
with endless patience and a steely determination. Perhaps it is that
last quality that has kept Eleanor so sharp over the years. As I seem to
be getting more forgetful, I asked Eleanor what her secret was. She
says she puts herself to sleep every night reciting poems or lyrics of
songs. If you are lucky, you can get her to recite one of her
favourites, Ogden Nash's "When I Grow Old".....I can't imagine when
that will be!
