Future Direction
Today, PAL Canada spans the country: “Caring for Our Own” is not just a
glib slogan. PAL Chapters share PAL’s acronym, mandate and commitment,
operating individually in governance, structure and funding, linked to
PAL Canada by Board representation. The purpose of PAL Canada is to
provide seed money to support its national operation and nurture the
familial ties which bond this unique community across the country in an
expression of our cultural heritage and presence.
Pal Canada's goal is to further the establishment of affordable housing
facilities for performing artists wherever they are needed across
Canada by establishing and supporting the work of local chapters in
areas where there is a demonstrated need. It has become increasingly
apparent that there is among the performing arts population (just as
there is in the population at large) a rising need for support and
extended care facilities for an aging group. PAL Canada intends to
become the principal national advocate for the development of such
facilities and to provide support through extending its network of
Supporting Casts (PAL volunteers who offer assistance to senior
artists) regardless of whether or not they have access to formal
Chapter organizations.
The success of PAL Toronto and PAL Vancouver is a clear demonstration
of the effectiveness and credibility of PAL Canada and its Chapters as
an organization. Nevertheless, in its new form, it is at the beginning
of developing its capacity for the work it has undertaken.
