Newfoundland Stories

Woven Through The Eyes of Senior Artists

FRIDAY, JANUARY 24, 2025 AT 5PM EST, IS THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP TO BE A STORY TELLER.

If you could talk to your younger self … what would you say?

In March of 2025, PAL Canada will bring senior artists together in St. John’s, to share stories that uncover a personal journey of trials, trauma and triumphs through a range of social issues. By bringing together personal narratives, aging artists can communicate to a broad audience, transcend cultural boundaries and create a special bond between the storytellers and audience as the storytellers let them in on their joys, fears, experiences and healing. As the stories are woven together these diverse personal narratives create a larger emotional narrative with deep-rooted messages.

The interaction between storytellers and audience is authentic and powerful, and fosters awareness for participants of all ages, abilities and identities.

 Our Goal:

To bring senior and youth artists together to address isolation, loneliness, joy and hope, through storytelling. This legacy project for the Newfoundland and Labrador Artistic Community will serve as the genesis of a PAL Canada Supporting Cast chapter, across Newfoundland and Labrador and the Atlantic provinces.

If you would like to be part of this wonderful experience, please use the sign-up form on this page, and we will get in touch with you with further details on how to submit your information to qualify for an interview.

Be a sponsor of this inspirational event. Contact PAL Canada at admin@palcanada.org and we will forward a sponsorship deck to you.

    About

Our story coach/director June Cupido’s vision: Creating a community that recognizes the dignity and worth of every person. She is passionate about developing more creative approaches to dealing with social, cultural issues around aging, inclusiveness and trauma.

The performance is a tapestry of unfolding stories set to music. June’s method was inspired by the three main stages of the “Hero’s Journey”, a narrative pattern identified by Joseph Campbell, world-celebrated mythologist. He asserts that storytelling and myths relate to our search for truth, meaning, and significance through the ages. According to Campbell, we all need to tell our personal story and, most importantly, to understand our story. He encourages us to find out what excites us and make that the basis of our journey.

We all have a story …

    Develop Your Story …

Deep in our hearts and souls, our stories are waiting for us to give them a voice.

For centuries, we have used Storytelling to communicate and entertain.

Stories that define our reality help us evolve both as individuals and as a society.

The stories we tell connect us with one another.

    How June’s story coaching works:

    • Begins with opening up a dialogue that leads you to your own truth
    • Uses soul-searching exercises that help you find clarity
    • Guides you to new ways of thinking to create ideas and enlightenment
    • Takes time to allow you to build trust with this process

Her method was inspired by the main stages of “The Hero’s Journey,” a narrative pattern identified by Joseph Campbell, world-celebrated mythologist. The teachings of Joseph Campbell serve as the inspiration for this narrative development process. He asserts that storytelling and myths relate to our search for truth, meaning, and significance through the ages. According to Campbell, we all need to tell our personal story and, most importantly, to understand our story. He encourages us to find out what excites us and make that the basis of our journey.

As dramaturge, June has been developing personal narratives through story coaching for the past 15 years. She is a Jungian Coach and passionate about more creative approaches that will provide transformative insights into what affects good story writing, positive mental health and well-being. As Joseph Campbell wrote, “The most rewarding mythological experience you can have is to experience how it lives inside yourself.”
